HANDS ACROSS THE WORLD - MONTY'S APPEAL 2012

Hi Guys!

This is Monty here and I am really hoping that you can help out my UK home club in their big project to transform their ground into one of the most attractive places to play cricket in South-West England. 

FAILAND & PORTBURY CRICKET CLUB (est. 1894) www.cricketclubsbristol.co.uk is one of the oldest cricket clubs in Bristol & Somerset. Our ground at Horse Race Lane BS8 3TY is just south of Bristol, set in open countryside with views across the Bristol Channel to Wales. 

Somerset is where Viv Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Joel Garner & Andy Caddick came, playing alongside Ian Botham, where Murali Kartik played till this year, and where Marcus Trescothick, Alfonso Thomas & Craig Kieswetter play now. 

Bristol is where Shane Warne came to play for his old club Imperial CC (sleeping in the pavilion!) which used to play in the same leagues as Failand & Portbury CC before it closed and the ground was for sold off for housing development.  What a shame that was!

My Club is a registered charity reg. no. 1140768 and my friends there are doing everything they can to stop that happening to our club, by buying new land for the ground (the browner areas in the photo above) securing Club & ground as a jewel in the English countryside for generations to come. I'm really looking forward to mentoring the young guys and playing games there this summer!

When I came to the UK first back in 1999 and represented Failand & Portbury CC as an amateur overseas cricketer, my friends there looked after me, sponsoring my first UK coaching qualifications  - and I have been going back ever since! – in recent years as Senior Coaching Mentor working with keen young cricketers to improve playing standards.

WHY THIS APPEAL? 

We need GB£50,000 and have so far raised about GB£18,000 towards that (US$1.00 = GB£0.62 and GB£1.00 = US$1.60). I am trying to help them raise the rest. 

Can you help out Monty's UK home club with a donation to their charitable cause?  Every bit helps but 100 donations x $500 would be real fantastic and would secure my Club's future for generations to come.
